The Mongolian visa is a permission granted to foreign citizens or stateless person by Mongolian authorized organization to enter the territory of Mongolia.

Mongolian visa has 13 types.

The type of a visa shall be indicated on the visa slip as Latin letters “D”, “A”, “OU”, “T”, “HM”, “O”, “B”, “S”, “J”, “HG”, “SH”, “TS”, “H” in conformity with the purpose of a foreign citizen or stateless person as follows:

1 type “D” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen with the diplomatic passport or an UNO official with the red laissez-passer passport to visit, or reside in, Mongolia with the purposes other than studying, tourism, visiting upon an invitation of a religious organization and personal reasons;

2 type “A” visa shall apply to:

2.1 to a foreign citizen with the official passport or to an UNO official with the blue laissez-passer passport for the official trip or stay in Mongolia ;

2.2 to a foreign citizen with the official or regular passport visiting Mongolia upon invitation by a Government agency, self-governing municipal authorities, or political party with a seat in the State Great Khural (Parliament);

2.3 to a foreign citizen with the official or regular passport visiting to work in Mongolia under an inter-governmental agreement.

3 type “OU” visa shall apply to an official of UN or any of its agencies who holds the blue laissez-passer passport or to a foreign citizen visiting Mongolia upon an invitation of an international organization for the purposes other than personal reasons.

4 type “T” visa shall apply to:

4.1 a foreign investor;

4.2 a senior manager to work in a joint venture, branch, or its representative office.

5 type “HM” visa shall apply to a foreign media organization member to visit, or reside in, Mongolia for the purposes of media reporting;

6 type “O” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen with the official or regular passport to visit, or reside in, Mongolia upon an invitation by a non-governmental organization, international humanitarian organization;

7 type “B” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen or stateless person visiting Mongolia for the business purposes;

8 type “S” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen or stateless person visiting Mongolia for the purposes of studying, retraining, internship, research irrespective of his/her passport type;

9 type “J” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen or stateless person visiting Mongolia as a tourist irrespective of his/her passport type;

10 type “HG” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen or stateless person visiting to work in Mongolia under an employment agreement irrespective of his/her passport type;

11 type “SH” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen or stateless person to visit, or reside in, Mongolia upon invitation by a religious organization irrespective of his/her passport type;

12 type “TS” visa shall apply to a foreign citizen or stateless person who has been issued the permission to emigrate to Mongolia ;

13 type “H” visa shall apply to:

13.1 to a foreign citizen or stateless person to visit, or reside in, Mongolia upon invitation by the Foreign National and Citizenship Authority of Mongolian (hereinafter “Authority”) or the Office of the Aiming Governor irrespective of his/her passport type;

13.2 to a foreign citizen or stateless person, who is married to a citizen of Mongolia and whose marriage has been authenticated by the marriage certificate issued by the relevant Mongolian authorities, to visit, or reside in, Mongolia for the personal reasons irrespective of his/her passport type;

Visa shall have designation

Entry / suitable for stays over 90 days in Mongolia /

Entry – Exit / suitable for stays within 90 days in Mongolia /

Exit – Entry shall apply to a long term business resident who temporarily leaves Mongolia for no more than 90 days , or to a permanent resident ,emigrant , or stateless person who temporarily leaves Mongolia for no more than 120 days.

Exit shall apply to foreign citizen, stateless person who is temporary or permanent resident for business or personal reasons who leaves Mongolia for more than 90 days or for good.

Transit shall apply to a foreign citizen or stateless person for transiting through the territory of Mongolia.

About visa extention

Ministry of foreign affairs will extend level D, A visa . OINFC (Office of Immigration, Naturalization and Foreign Citizens) will extend level E visa.

For visa extention foreigners on official purposes shall bring ;

Request letter from organization for extending visa

Certificates or lisences provided from foreign trade investment agencies

Valid passport

Passport copy including first and entry visa pages

Fill the application form put together one resent photo sized 3*4

For visa extention foreigners on private or travel purposes shall go through the following formalities;

Regulation on Mongolian visa permission

The visa permission in Mongolia is an advanced permission concluded whether permit a foreigners travel to this country.

In accordance to permission provided to foreign citizen with laboring, studying , investing purposes from the authorized governmental organization the OINFC will permit in 2 days after receiving related documents .

The governmental organization of foreign affairs grants a permit to the diplomatic mission and counselor Departments overseas related with 30 days Entry – Exit ordinary visa permission to foreign citizens or stateless.

The foreign citizen ‘s inviter shall complete the following document ;

- Foreign citizen accepted an e-card from the foreign investment of foreign trade agencies;

an organization request letter for entry visa permission

cards or certificates provided from the foreign investment or trade agencies

certificate of organization unit

copy of valid passport

fee 5.000 tg

- foreign citizen on labor purpose

a labor permission from the Labor , welfare service centre

request letter from the organization for entry visa permission

certificate of organization unit

certificates provided from the foreign investment or trade agencies

copy of valid passport

fee 5.000tg

- foreign citizen with study purpose

1. a study permission from the Ministry of Education , Culture and Science

2. request letter from university for entry visa permission

3. copy of valid passport

4. fee 5.000 tg

- foreign traveler for short term on official purpose

1. request letter from the organization for entry visa permission / concerns foreigners residing 31-90 days on official purpose /

2. certificates of organization units

3. certificates of organization units / company with foreign investment /

4. copy of valid passport

5. fee 5.000 tg

Visa waiver

Mongolian visa is not required for the citizens of below listed foreign countries and regions to visit Mongolia on basis of the passport type, purpose and duration of the visit in accordance with the Bilateral Agreement of Mongolia with those countries. Please see the below list to check out your eligibility for non visa regime. All the other citizens of foreign countries that not listed below are required to obtain appropriate visa to visit Mongolia.
